Think you're dreading walking to class in the cold this month? Check out this list of five of the coldest college campuses in North America.
The University of Alaska Anchorage: Located in the upper reaches of the North American continent, this university is the perfect setting for a white winter. According to the Weather Channel, the average high temperature in Anchoragein January is 22 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low of 8 degrees at night.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison: Formally created by Wisconsin’s first governor, this university first opened its doors on February 5, 1849 with only 17 students enrolled in the first class. Michigan State University: This university had a rough start. Founded in 1850, Michigan State survived six attempted shut-downs from 1859-1869. The Weather Channel states that in January the temperatures drop to a high of 30 degrees and a low of 17 for the town of East Lansing, Michigan. Slightly warmer than our previous colleges, but Michigan students better have plenty of hot cocoa ready!
University of Massachusetts Amherst: UMass came from humble origins, originally consisting of only four faculty members, four wooden buildings, and 56 students. Now this university is home to nearly 24,000 students. The current predicted weather forecast is an average high of 33 degrees Fahrenheit with a low of 13.
North Dakota State University: This university prides itself on being a land-grant foundation and envisions itself as a "contemporary metropolitan" known internationally.
